Health & Safety Supervisor

I am a certified Covid Compliance Officer (aka Health & Safety Supervisor) for Music Video, Commercial, Television and Film Production Sets.

I have worked on several projects involving A-list talent (both feature films and commercials), and it’s my responsibility to keep every person on these sets entirely safe and Covid-free. I have a great reputation in this position, due to my thorough and rigorous approach to health & safety.

This position requires the following duties:

  • STAGE I: PRE-PRODUCTION

    • Meet & correspond with producers to discuss Health & Safety budget, logistical challenges, and determine what extra steps are involved in creating a safe work environment for the production.

    • Thoroughly review union protocols via the most up-to-date Return to Work Agreement for DGA, IATSE, SAG-AFTRA and Teamsters/Basic Crafts, and ensure that production plans will meet the minimum safety requirements for all employees.

    • Craft an Action Plan (submitted to unions and the state) extensively detailing all measures production will be taking to keep our set as safe as possible. These measures will meet union and CDC health & safety standards, and will be based on the most updated data we have at the time on the ever-emerging global situation.

    • Order PPE for use by all cast & crew for the duration of the production, which will be up to code for the highest standards of safety (e.g. N95/KN95 masks, EPA-approved cleaning products, etc.).

    • Coordinate laboratory testing with local lab and all employees to test for Covid-19 on a frequent basis, and schedule out all testing for employees based on their work Zones (e.g. their proximity to actors), their individual travel & set schedules, and other risk factors.

    • Plan safety meetings to communicate with crew about what our set safety protocols will entail once production commences.

  • STAGE II: PRODUCTION

    • Provide PPE to all cast & crew upon arrival, and whenever else it’s requested.

    • Coordinate daily testing. All employees must be tested a minimum of once-per-week, but many cast & crew must test up to 3 or more times per week. Unions require that we do one lab-based PCR test per week for all “Zone A” employees, so I also do everything in my power to ensure our lab technician partners are efficient & swift in their process of collecting & testing samples.

    • Conduct daily wellness checks, e.g. taking temperatures upon arrival, having all employees fill out a questionnaire affirming no symptoms of sickness, and addressing any health concerns that may arise.

    • Monitor & enforce compliance. If masks are not being worn properly, I make sure this is immediately corrected. If any employee causes problems or refuses to comply, I exercise the authority given to me to take disciplinary action, including the halting of production if necessary.

    • Frequent sanitizing/disinfecting of all commonly touched surfaces, using EPA-approved cleaning products.

    • Keep sets closed & safe.

      • When shooting indoors, I make sure location is properly ventilated (using natural ventilation, fans, HVAC systems w/ up-to-code filters, air scrubbers, etc). All designated eating/break areas must be properly cleaned and seating must be properly distanced (all chairs 6+ feet apart).

      • Nobody is allowed on set who has not been properly tested and cleared within 72 hours, period. All such “bogies” I must efficiently (but kindly) deal with if the situation arises.

      • If anybody ever tests positive, I must instruct them how to properly quarantine, do extensive contact tracing, and test anybody else on our set who has been in close contact with them.
